Webinar overview

The question of what is an automobile seems straight-forward to most, unless you are an insurer dealing with an unusual claim. Across the country, each jurisdiction has different perspectives on what it considers to be an automobile and what constitutes proper use of an automobile.

In this interactive webinar, lawyers from Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia will address:

  • How each province defines an automobile
  • When coverage is not available to drivers in each jurisdiction
  • The status of vehicles such as ATVs, dirt bikes, farm tractors, modified skateboards, back hoes and golf cars in each jurisdiction
  • A look at each jurisdiction’s perspective on ‘proper use and operation of a vehicle’ in a range of scenarios including loading and unloading, deliberately running someone over, break in chain of causation, shooting from a car and dropping rocks from an overpass.

The webinar will provide participants will an update on the most recent case law affecting the definition of a automobile and an understanding of the tests each regions uses to determine when victims can make an auto insurance claim and apply for benefits.
